These New Year’s resolution will stick with you throughout the year.
Even though the first week of 2016 is almost over, there is still plenty of time to make a New Year’s resolution! If you are trying to think of a resolution that will help enhance your life throughout the year, consider these recommendations.
- Be present – too often people spend time with their loved ones, or even on their own, without being present in the moment. Put away your electronics and make a conscience decision to be present in whatever activity you are doing so that you can fully enjoy it.
- Reduce your screen time – at least 30 minutes before you go to bed, turn off all screens. This includes your TV, cell phone, tablet, and laptop. Avoiding looking at a screen will let your mind rest and give you time to process your day, helping you to sleep more soundly.
- Avoid the snooze button – studies have shown that waking up when your first alarm goes off will help you feel better throughout the day.
- Go for a walk – getting moving for even five minutes a day can help to improve your mental health. Take a quick walk around the block or even to the end of your street each day.
- Choose healthy food – instead of going on a diet, focus on adding healthy foods to your diet. Choosing healthy food options will lead to a sustainable, healthy lifestyle that will allow you to feel your best.
- Spend time with yourself – it can be easy to get caught up in everyday life and forget how important you are. Schedule an hour for yourself at least once a week to read a book, go for a walk, or even just sit outside.
